# Can I get a landline number that rings on my smartphone?

> Yes. Port or get a DID number from any VoIP provider (VoIP.ms, Telnyx, Vonage Business, Twilio), then install Groundwire on iOS or Android. Groundwire registers against your SIP account and rings via push even when the app is backgrounded. One-time $9.99 — no subscription.

# Can I get a landline number that rings on my smartphone?

Yes — any [DID (direct inward dialing)](/voip-glossary/did/) number, including traditional landline numbers ported to VoIP, can ring on your smartphone. You need two things: [a VoIP provider that assigns or ports the number](/resources/knowledge-base/do-i-need-a-voip-number-to-use-groundwire/), and a SIP softphone app to receive calls. **Groundwire** ($9.99 one-time, iOS and Android) is the app; Acrobits does not provide numbers.

## How it works

  - **Step 1 — Get a number.** Sign up with a [VoIP provider such as VoIP.ms, Telnyx, Vonage Business, or Twilio](/resources/knowledge-base/groundwire-compatibility/). They can assign a new local or toll-free number, or port your existing landline number over (porting typically takes 2–10 business days).

  - **Step 2 — Install Groundwire.** Download Groundwire from the App Store or Google Play. Enter the SIP credentials your provider gives you — server address, username, and password.

  - **Step 3 — Receive calls anywhere.** Groundwire uses SIPIS, Acrobits' push infrastructure, to wake the app when a call arrives — even when your phone is locked or the app is closed. Calls ring like a normal phone call.

## What to expect

  - Callers dial your landline number and reach your smartphone, wherever you are.

  - Your smartphone displays or sends calls from that number — callers see your business or home number, not your mobile number.

  - VoIP calls use your Wi-Fi or mobile data connection, not your cellular minutes.

  - One Groundwire purchase covers all your devices sharing the same App Store or Google Play account.

**Ready to get started?** [Download Groundwire](/sip-client-ios-android/) and pair it with the VoIP provider of your choice.
