Some users may now be asked to confirm that they are 18 or older when opening an Acrobits app. This is an age-assurance check introduced in response to new child-safety laws and app-store requirements in several regions.
The check does not mean that Acrobits apps contain adult content. Our apps are communication tools. The 18+ setting is an access-control measure that gives us one consistent way to meet differing regional requirements while the legal and technical landscape continues to develop.
What is age verification?
Age verification, sometimes called age assurance, helps an app determine whether a user belongs to an adult or minor age group. Our apps use information supplied by the operating system or app store:
- On Android, the app uses the Google Play Age Signals API.
- On supported Apple devices, the app uses Apple's Declared Age Range API.
Age verification takes place through the privacy controls provided by Apple or Google. The app receives only a confirmation or age range needed to provide the appropriate experience. Depending on the user's account and region, a parent or guardian may manage this sharing.
Why is it needed?
Governments are introducing laws intended to give children and teenagers stronger protection online and parents more control over the apps they use.
Although the details differ by location, these laws can require app stores to determine a user's age group, obtain parental approval for minors, and provide privacy-preserving age information to app developers.
Examples include:
- The Texas App Store Accountability Act, SB 2420, which introduced age-assurance and parental-consent duties for app marketplaces and developers. Google reports that the law is currently in effect, and Apple provides developer guidance for apps available in Texas.
- Louisiana Act 481, effective July 1, 2026, which requires covered app stores to verify age categories and obtain parental consent before a minor downloads or purchases an app. It also requires stores to provide age-category and consent information to developers when requested under the law.
- Brazil's Digital Child and Adolescent Statute, effective March 17, 2026. It requires app stores and operating systems to take proportionate steps to determine age groups and provide privacy-preserving age signals to applicable services.
Other jurisdictions are considering or introducing related rules. Because these requirements are evolving and do not all work in exactly the same way, the experience may differ by platform, account, and location.
How we have addressed it
We integrated the age-assurance tools provided by Apple and Google. When verification is required, the app requests an age signal from the platform and checks whether the user is in the permitted age group.
Our approach is designed around privacy and availability:
- The platform handles the underlying age check; Acrobits does not collect identity documents or exact birth dates.
- The app uses only the limited result needed to decide whether access can continue.
- A confirmed adult can continue without further action.
- A user identified as under 18, or a user who declines a required age-range request, may be asked to retry or may be unable to continue.
- If the platform does not require a check in the user's region, the app is designed to avoid blocking access.
Rollout status
Age verification is now enabled for 100% of Groundwire and Acrobits Softphone users on both Android and iOS.
The rollout for Cloud Softphone and white-label Cloud Softphone apps is coming soon.

We are monitoring early issues
Age-assurance services are new and depend on several components working together: the app, the device operating system, the user's Apple or Google account, the app store, and platform services. Some users may encounter an unexpected prompt, a verification failure, or a screen that does not progress.
An outdated or unsupported Google Play Store or Google Play services version, an older app build, account information that is incomplete, network problems, or a platform-side issue can all affect the result.
We are actively investigating reported problems and will address issues under our control as quickly as possible. We appreciate our clients' and users' patience while the platforms and regional requirements continue to mature.
If you or your users encounter a problem, please open a support ticket. Cloud Softphone clients can create a ticket from their project dashboard in the Cloud Softphone portal. Acrobits Softphone and Groundwire users can use the Acrobits support form.
Please include the app name and version, device model, operating-system version, country or region, where the app was installed from, and a screenshot or exact wording of the error.
On Android, also include the Google Play Store and Google Play services versions if available. These details help us identify patterns and resolve problems faster.
For most people this is a one-time check, and a confirmed adult keeps using the app exactly as before. If a prompt will not clear, updating your app and your device's app store and trying again resolves most cases. When it does not, reach out.
We are treating early reports as a priority and will keep this page current as verification reaches Cloud Softphone and white-label apps.
