Can I use a third-party softphone with 3CX?
Yes. 3CX is a SIP-standards PBX and supports any third-party SIP client. Groundwire (one-time $9.99, iOS/Android) registers against 3CX as a standard SIP extension using TLS + SRTP. Features requiring 3CX's proprietary protocol (presence BLF, 3CX chat, web meetings) are not available in Groundwire.
How do I set up Groundwire with RingCentral?
Groundwire does not work with RingCentral. RingCentral runs a closed ecosystem and does not publish SIP credentials for third-party softphones. If you want to use Groundwire, switch to an open SIP provider like VoIP.ms, Twilio, Vonage, or Telnyx.
How do I set up Groundwire with Twilio?
Twilio supports two ways to route inbound calls: webhooks (TwiML — for IVRs, bots, programmable flows) and SIP (routes the call straight to a registered device like Groundwire). For the "ring my phone" use case you want SIP, not webhooks.
How do I set up Groundwire with VoIP.ms?
Groundwire defaults to G.711u (PCMU), which is what VoIP.ms recommends for North American calling. If you have limited bandwidth or are on cellular data, enable G.729a as a fallback. For HD calling between two Groundwire users on Wi-Fi, enable G.722.
How do I set up Groundwire with Vonage?
Groundwire works cleanly with Vonage Business and Vonage SIP Trunking — Vonage Home is the only plan that's a no-go. Also: is Groundwire secure? and best app for making and receiving calls with a SIP account.
